Wonders of Kenya
Come and discover the diverse beauty and richness of East Africa, from tropical coastlines to arid inland and the vast savannahs; the final destination of the largest annual journey of mammals in the world, the Great Migration.
There is a lot to see and do in this vast multi-ethnic country, here are the top four most popular destinations. Starting with Nairobi, a former Maasai watering hole, is a bustling city where you can experience the urban and modern Kenyan lifestyle with tasty food, bustling markets and enchanting nightlife.
Mount Kenya region, offers stunning scenic beauty and outdoor activities. Mount Kenya, known as Kirinyaga by the locals, is the second highest summit in Africa, an extinct volcano in the central highlands. A good level of fitness is necessary to trek up the mountain and it is advisable to ascend the summit with an experienced guide to ensure you avoid mountain sickness or running into the wildlife. There are five routes up the mountain with resting camps on the way up, you should allow four days for this activity.
Lake Nakuru is a beautiful spot with large flocks of flamingos, black and white rhinos, hippos and predators such as lions and leopards. If you have the time, it is well worth the visit and it is a good destination for most of the year, June to March. The Kenyan coast is not to be missed, offering white sand beaches, water sports and mixed colonial heritage. There are many beach resorts to choose from and is the perfect stopover for soaking up the sun and swimming in the sea before venturing to the South Rift and the Kenyan portion of the Serengeti.
Finally, Safaris! Kenya is one of Africa’s most popular Safari destinations and there is a good reason for that. You can witness the Great Wildlife Migration, with millions of wildebeests, zebras, antelops making the journey from Ngorongoro Crater in Tanzania followed closely by lions, crocodiles, hyenas and other predators to the Masai Mara National Park.
The best time to visit the Masai Mara is between June and October, although wildlife can be seen throughout the year, if you’re particularly interested in witnessing the Great Migration, make sure to be there in September/October. Amboseli National Park, is the second most visited after the Masai Mara and boasts Mount Kilimanjaro in the background with herds of Elephants scattered across the land. Best times to visit are January and February, or June to September.
