The Bahamas
Paradise on Earth? We think so... with crystal blue waters, white sand beaches and shark sanctuaries around the entire Island. Choosing to holiday here not only supports the local community but contributes to oceanic conservation and species preservation.
The island has many exciting things to see and do, both on land and in the water. We highly recommend a visit to Nassau's Arawak Cay with its group of bars, jerk joints, conch stands and seafood restaurants, known collectively as Fish Fry. It is only a 15 minute walk from Nassau's downtown proper, perfect to walk off the tasty food.
The Bahamas was known as the capital of piracy and claimed to be home to some famous celebrity pirates like Blackbeard. There is a dedicated museum with all things pirates in Nassau, The Pirates of Nassau Museum. Inside is a real pirate ship you can walk around and learn all about the folklore surrounding pirate legacy in the Caribbean.
Diving is highly recommended, not only because the waters are crystal clear but the Island is surrounded by rich sea life which has been thriving due to the protection of the waters surrounding the island. You can go shark diving, actually feeding sharks to exploring Bimini Road, 18 feet under the water, this symmetrical limestone structure has been suggested to be linked to Plato's lost city of Atlantis. The dive is both provocative and often blessed with abundant sea life.
If you want to experience one of the fanciest resorts in the world, why not indulge yourself with a visit to the resort of Atlantis located on Paradise Island, with Aqua-venture Waterpark boasting 11 pools, huge water slides, one themed like a Mayan temple that tunnels through a shark pool.
If you're interested in exploring the wider side of this Caribbean paradise, why not venture to Lucayan National Park, comprising 40-acres of lush mangroves, forests, waterways and white sand beaches. There is also an extensive network of caves, including one of the longest limestone caves in the world.
There are plenty of stunning beaches for you to visit, from the more pricey Harbor Island, home to some nice resorts and pristine beaches to Lighthouse Beach and Twin Cove Beach in Eleuthera.
The Bahamas are truly a jewel in the Caribbean, with so much to explore and immerse yourself in on this paradise of an island. If you visit during the holiday season, you will get to experience Junkaroo which takes place every boxing day and New Year's Day. There is a mini festival held in June if you can't be there for the main festival. If you visit during February, our visit might coincide with RumBahamas, a 3 day celebration of food, culture and cane-spirit when Rum producers from all over the Caribbean and Latin America descend on Nassau for this annual pilgrimage.
