If you're looking for slow and relaxing dinners by the sea, breezy walks through cobbled streets and a real taste of urban Portugal without the crowds, then Porto is the place for you!

Starting off with the Ribeira District, this is the oldest part of the city set on a hill, lined with cobbled streets and the oldest houses still standing in the city today. It is full of charm and character and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You can spend a whole day here, cruising through the streets, taking in the sites, venturing into the many cafes, restaurants and shops dotted along the way.

Porto is famous for its Port Wine and the various Port Lodges offer tours explaining the traditional methods of production and ageing in casks that are kept in cellars known as caves along the Douro River. You also get to sample some of these delicious vintage ports.

There are many museums, art galleries and walking tours on offer in Porto. Our top picks for museums would be Soares dos Reis National Museum and Museu da Misericordia do Porto, showcasing local history with beautiful art work ranging from ancient sculptures to modernist pieces of art. The Museu Serralves is set inside a beautiful estate featuring Art Deco architecture and an award-winning park surrounding it. For the football fans amongst you, the FC Porto Museum is a must.

Porto's nightlife has a lot to offer, whether it is fine dining you are after, and you can find vegan fine dining in this wonderful city; or loud beats at the many nightclubs dotted throughout the city playing jazz and blues to the latest hits.

When in Porto, a boat tour is a must to experience the Douro River, the cityscape's backdrop. There are many magnificent bridges to sail under and get distance from the city, this way you are able to look back at where this urban paradise hugs the river banks in bursts of colour.

Porto is a beautiful city that has been on travellers wish lists for years now. Our verdict, it is well worth the hype. Happy travelling.
