Oslo is the capital city of Norway and is situated in the southern region of the country. It is the perfect city for a weekend trip away.

There are so many incredible things to do in Oslo. It does however require a bit of planning especially if you are travelling on a budget. So read on to find out more. 

Explore the Akershus Fortress which was built to protect and provide a royal residence for Oslo back in the 13th-century. It has some great history behind it and the views over the Oslo Fjords are truly breathtaking especially on a clear summer day. 

 

An absolute must for anyone visiting Oslo is to take a stroll through Vigeland Park. This is the world's largest sculpture park created single-handedly by the artist, Gustav Vigeland. This is perfect for those wanting a relaxing stroll and to take in some amazing sights. There are over 200 sculptures to view. Afterwards there are some great restaurants in the area such as Herregardskoa, hos Thea and Lofotstua. 

 

In the Bygdoy area of Oslo you can visit 3 museums which are all situated right beside each other. This makes it very convenient for all those who like visiting museums. The museums in question are Kon-Tiki, the Norwegian Maritime Museum and the Fram Museum. 

 

Explore the Aker Brygge neighbourhood, which is an upscale area that was developed on the side of a former shipyard. Oslo is a very friendly city and the best way to explore the city is to get out on foot. The boardwalk is full of fantastic restaurants, quirky cafes and unique little boutiques. 

 

Whilst in the area of Aker Brygge you might pass by the Nobel Peace Center which is worth a look. There is also Tjuvholmen City Beach that's just at the end of the boardwalk itself. The beach is a great place to visit. 

 

There is plenty to do in Oslo itself but if you want a break from the city you could head to the beautiful forest of Nordmarka. If you don’t have a car then you can still get to certain places easily enough. There are many walking trails, lakes, camping spots, fishing opportunities etc situated close by to the Oslo area. 

 

Oslo is a great city which is well worth a visit. There is a lot to do in Norway, Oslo could be a great starting place or it is also ideal for a weekend away.
