Both iconic Australian cities, but when you have to choose between the two, which city will suit you best? Are you interested in famous landmarks or history and culture? Are you looking to experience Australian wildlife or is shopping and the nightlife more your focus? Read on to see which see better caters for your needs!

Starting with landmarks, sightseeing and things to do, Sydney comes on top. The famous Sydney Harbour is an architectural landmark, but aside from this, there are miles of beautiful beaches giving the city an edge. You can find botanic gardens, museums and art galleries spread across the city. Its geographical location and great weather, offer tourists a diverse experience. The Sydney Aquarium, Taronga Zoo which you get to by taking a ferry. For panoramic city views, from the top of Sydney Tower or you can climb up to the top of Harbour Bridge.

 

Melbourne caters for an entirely different kind of tourist, most people visiting the city are looking to experience the food, to shop or attend a specific musical, art show or sporting event. The city has many iconic sporting venues, the best example being the Melbourne Cricket Ground, with a capacity to fit in over 100,000 people.

Melbourne has an aquarium and zoo but they are much smaller than their Sydney cousins. For 360° panoramic views, head to Eureka Tower and all the way up to Eureka Skydeck. There is a botanic gardens in Melbourne too, but they don’t overlook the harbour.

 

 

Melbourne is famous for its food scene, providing more accessible eateries, tasty, affordable with great diversity. Sydney on the other hand, requires an insider or a personal gastronomical guide to find similar restaurants and cafes. For food diversity, quality and ACCESSIBILITY, Melbourne is a more obvious choice.

 

Cultural attractions can be found in both cities, Sydney has a lot to offer as you would expect for a city of its size, museums, galleries, theatres and the famous Opera House. However, Sydney is hard to compete with Australia’s cultural capital, Melbourne! The city has an incredible art and music scene, landing most new art exhibitions and musicals upon touch down in Down Under.
