  • Beirut
  • Lebanon
  • Baalbek
  • Tyre
  • Byblos

Lebanon is full of traditional charm, ancient sites, delicious cuisine all surrounded by the raw beauty of the Mediterranean.

Beirut, the capital of Lebanon, known as the Paris of the Middle East, is full of life and scars of years of civil war. There is much to do in this bustling city, from trying out the many bars and cafes in Hamra and Gemmayzeh.

Hamra is home to the American University of Beirut and is full of eateries, bars and cafes. The main stretch, Hamra street, acts as the central point to all the streets and alleys that wade in all directions.

The more modern downtown area (Beirut Central District) is full of up-market shopping and bars. Zaitunay Bay is close by and is a modern development full of restaurants overlooking the Mediterranean.

When in Lebanon, especially for the first time, a visit to Mount Lebanon and the biggest city on it is a must. Jbeil to the locals, Byblos to everyone else, is a beautiful city with ancient ruins dating back from Neolithic to Phoenician inhabitants. It is a 40km journey north of Beirut and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

You can take a tour of the Old City and visit Byblos Castle, visit the Fish Fossil Museum and take a boat trip and even ride on the Téléphérique (mountain cable car). There are plenty of souks to explore the local handicrafts and produce as well. A visit to Jbeil (Byblos) is not to be missed.

We have only touched on the myriad of things to see in this beautiful country. Next week, we will explore Baalbek and Tyre, stay tuned!
