India: The Golden Triangle
The Golden Triangle of India comprises the three most visited cities in the north-west region of India; Delhi, Agra and Jaipur. They are all connected by good road and rail links. They form a triangular shape on the map, hence the name. The term ‘golden’ is from the incredible wealth of cultural and historical splendour to be enjoyed in each city.
In Part 1 we will explore Delhi before heading onto Agra for part 2, and then concluding the journey in Jaipur for part 3. The Golden Triangle is a great introduction to India. Most people start in Delhi as its the capital and flights serve this city well.
Honk honk!! That is the cacophonous sound that awaits you in Old Delhi. This place is impossible to ignore whether you love it or hate it. A great place for a shopping spree or to see the Red Fort which housed the emperors of the Mughal dynasty for nearly 200 years. A beautiful building steeped in history. This is stunning area of Delhi which is great for photos. Enjoy sharing the streets with all sorts from cycle-rickshaws, cows, monkeys, shoppers and beggars. This chaotic part of Delhi is a must.
Delhi is a great place for many reasons, one in particular is its fantastic cuisine. India is famed for its wonderful flavours and spices and you will not be disappointed. There is plenty on offer from rich Mughlai curries to the famous street food known as Dilli-ka-Chaat. The fusion of flavours will tantalise your taste buds like never before.
Delhi’s emporiums are a treasure trove of all the wonderful eccentric items you can purchase on your travels. If you missed picking something up that you liked the look of before, then fear not, most likely you will find it here in Delhi as well. As well as the emporiums check out the street bazaars, even if you don’t buy anything, it is worth a visit just for a photo.
There are so many things to see and do in Delhi whether it’s the previously mentioned Red Fort, Humayun’s Tomb (tomb of Mughal emperor), National Museum (largest in India), Lotus Temple (place of worship shaped like a flower, India Gate (war memorial) or ISKCON Temple (religious temple). Too many to discuss in this short article.
