If you’re looking for a way to travel back in time, don’t over think it! Head straight to Havana; worn down yet magnificent, amazing street vibes, architecture and people.

Famous for its eclectic vibe, Havana is a city made up of many wonderful and diverse buildings and municipalities. The city is made up of 15 municipalities, start off at Old Havana, the city’s centre. This part of Havana is known for being Bohemian, picturesque and very charming. You will find cars, horses and beautiful buildings, where it all began.

Take an evening stroll from the city centre to El Malecon, this is where the locals come to unwind and have a good time. It is more lively during weekends with music, dancing and people having a good time. Alternatively, enjoy a walk at dawn to take in the exquisite sunrise and watch the cruise ships come in.

There are many iconic buildings to see during your visit. Be sure to check out the Gran Teatro de La Habana (Grand Theatre), it is fully restored and a guided tour is highly recommended. The imposing El Capitolio, the National Capitol Building in Havana, used to house government organisations and is now the Cuban Academy of Science.

For a trip down the rabbit hole, head to Fusterlandia neighbourhood, “a dreamy folk art kingdom” with art filled streets sculptures and mosaics everywhere. Be sure to check out the Fabrica de Arte Cubano (Cuban Art Factory), you can expect theatre, modern dance, jazz, DJ’s and FUN!

There are many eateries to fit a wide range of budgets, for reasonable eats, check out El Café, Dos Pelotas, Restaurant Van Van and D’Next Bar Cafeteria. For local cusine, San Juan Bar & Grill and Somos Cuba Restaurant are great places to immerse yourself in local gastronomical delights. Fine dine at the infamous Otramaneralahabana or Habana Mia 7.

Havana is a blast from the past, a juxtaposition of old and new. Its recent opening to the world means some of its better preserved aspects are evolving and changing, so try to visit and experience the old school charm before it gives way to the 21st century.
