Ghana Part 1
Over the next two weeks will explore the top 10 experiences not to be missed in Ghana! This week we will look at 5 of them. AKWAABA (welcome in Akan)
10. Volta Lake, largest man-made lake in the world. You can take a cruise to Dodi Island on the Dodi Princess. You can also pay a visit the Digya National Park, the second largest and oldest in the country. You are able to go fishing on the lake and you have the opportunity to see the Akosombo Dam.
9. Nzulezo, a village built entirely on stilts on the Amansuri wetland, it is accessible by canoe from Beyin village. You will be led through the mangrove swamp forest to reach Nzulezo village. This remote village offers a glimpse into a simpler way of life, far away from the hustle and bustle of Ghanaian life.
8. Busua beach, arguably the best beach in Ghana, located on the southern coast of the country. There are a range of resorts and accomodations to choose from, from luxury to simple. Check out the African Rainbow Resort, a small family run business with 12 rooms and breakfast included, at a reasonable price.
7. Kumasi, Ghana’s second largest city, famous for its artisans, from golden jewellery, colourful Kente cloths and carved stools. Check out the Kente Weaving Village to experience the history and rich tradition behind the making of famous Kente cloth. Stop by the bustling Kejetia market where you can find anything from waist beads, shea butter to local made hand soaps. Visit the Manhyia Palace Museum to explore the history of the Ashanti kings and how they used to live. If you’re lucky you might get a glimpse of the current king, who makes an appearance every 42 days.
6. Kokrobite Beach, this is popular with visitors who don’t have much time as it is only 20 miles drive from the capital Accra. One of the main attractions is the Academy of African Music & Arts. You can get accommodation at the academy or head to Big Milly's Backyard in the village.
