Budapest vs. Prague Take 1

  • Prague
  • Budapest
  • Central Europe

Over the following two weeks, we will explore these two jewels in Central Europe, this week we will be comparing and contrasting their heritage, river views, bridges and squares. Next week we will look at food, drink and social activities.

Starting with Castle Districts, Prague has the largest Castle District in the world, featuring Castle Gates, Rampart Gardens and St. Vitus Cathedral. Exploring this beautiful heritage site on the banks of the Vltava River.
Budapest's Castle District on the other hand includes the Royal Palace with the must visit National Gallery. In addition to Mathias Curuch and Fisherman's Bastion. Both are amazing for different reasons, the size and magnificence of the Castle District in Prague in undeniable and is our chosen winner.
Both cities lie on the banks of a river, the Danube River divides the city of Budapest and is much wider that the Vltava River running through Prague. The narrower water way between the river banks in Prague add a more magical experience than the larger water way running through Budapest.

The famous Chain Bridge in Budapest with the two guarding lions (in stone) on either side is a nice bridge and must see when in Budapest.

Charles Bridge in Prague is not only a beautiful walk but offers amazing views of the city and definitely wins over the Chain Bridge.

Final category for this week are squares! The Kossuth Lajos Square, in front of the Parliament building and Heroes Square in Budapest are large and open.

Whereas the squares in Prague are much more romantic with arguably Europe’s most beautiful square, the Old Town Square, it is large with the Old Town Hall Toweron on one side and the Tyn Church on the other. Depending on personal preference, you can decide which you prefer?

Next week, we will explore, locals, food and drink, transportation and overall experience. Stay tuned!
