Bolivia
There is plenty to see and do in a country like Bolivia. From Sprawling cities to peaceful mountain ranges to the desert like salt flats, Bolivia is diverse.
The scenery is breathtaking, once you get used to the high altitude, you will be blown away. Discover colonial architecture and learn from the indigenous people. Escape to a simpler way of life and enjoy what this varied country has to offer.
There is plenty of history to learn about whether it’s the pre-Columbian period to the era of Spanish colonial rule. Che Guevara holds a special place in Bolivian history and you can learn all about that as well.
Visit La Paz, one of Bolivia’s largest cities and commercial centres. Take it easy when you first arrive as your body becomes acclimatised to the high altitude. You can admire stunning views of Mount Illimani from the Mi Teleferico cable car. Browse the stalls at Mercado de Hechiceria where vendors sell numerous herbal remedies.
Other parts of Bolivia which are worth a visit include Sucre the nation’s capital and site of Bolivian independence. There are lots of museums and is well worth a visit if you enjoy that sort of thing. Also don’t miss Salar de Uyuni the world’s largest salt flats, in southwest Bolivia. This is a beautiful part of the world and once featured in ‘Top Gear’ the popular car show. The white ground glitters in the sun and when wet the flats reflects the sky’s blue light.
Lake Titicaca, which is situated between Peru and Bolivia, it’s the largest lake in South America and the highest navigable body of water in the world. In Andean belief, Titicaca is the birthplace of the sun. The bright days are contrasted with bitterly cold nights. The lake is truly stunning and you will also get to how the local indigenous people live and check out some Inca ruins.
The reasons for visiting Bolivia are as vast as the country itself. The mountains are spectacular, indigenous culture is everywhere, the lake is beautiful, the Salar de Uyuni is spectacular, the country is steeped in history and it is an insane experience. Definitely worth seeing at least once in your lifetime.
